What is a Crunchie?

Depending on where you live you may not have Cadbury Crunchie Bars but you will hopefully have an alternative. Crunchies are basically a honeycomb bar covered in chocolate. They are quite an underrated bar in my opinion, because they are utterly delicious!

Crunchie Rocky Road

Rocky road is such an easy sweet treat to make. I really need to make it more often. It has been so so long since I made rocky road. I think the last time I made it was when I made my Mini Egg Rocky Road.

This is the first chocolate rocky road recipe I have posted and trust me it has been worth the wait. It is such a super easy recipe to make and is perfect for making with kids too.

I used a 20cm square cake tin. You can use a larger cake tin your rocky road will be thinner than mine and if you use a smaller cake tin your rocky road will be thicker than mine.

To make the rocky road even more crunchier and over the top I used Crunchie spread as well as chocolate. Crunchie spread is the best milk chocolate spread with honeycomb pieces.

Making the Crunchie Rocky Road

I start of by crushing my biscuits. I done this roughly so that when I added them to my rocky road there are lots of different sized chunks of biscuit and leaving them to one side. Next, I cut up my crunchies, again I done this roughly and left them to one side.

I started by melting the chocolate in a heatproof bowl in a microwave. I melt the chocolate in 20 second bursts stirring in between until it is completely melted. If you don’t have a microwave you could pop the chocolate into a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water. If you are melting the chocolate this way just ensure that the bowl containing your chocolate doesn’t touch the water.

Once your chocolate is melted add in the chocolate spread and stir. Next, I add the rest of the ingredient marshmallows, crushed biscuits and crunchie pieces. I mixed until they were all coated in the chocolate mixture.

Next I poured the mixture into my cake tin, ensuring it was spread evenly and then sprinkle the remining biscuits, crunchies and marshmallows over the top.

I pop the rocky road in the fridge for around 3-4 hours or until the rocky road has completely set.

Once the rocky road is set you can cut it into individual pieces.

Equipment

20cm Square Cake Tin

Scales

Spatula

Mixing Bowl

Ingredients

Milk Chocolate – This forms the base of your rocky road. It binds all the rest of the ingredients together. I used milk chocolate but you can use white or dark if you prefer.

Crunchie Spread – This is optional. I used it to give the milk chocolate a more Crunchie flavour as it contains honeycomb pieces.

Marshmallows – Marshmallows make your rocky road lovely and soft. I used white and pink mini marshmallows but again you can use any.

Digestive Biscuits – I used digestive biscuits but you could also use hobnobs or another plain biscuit. It gives the rocky road a bit of crunch.

Crunchies – You can’t have crunchie rocky road without crunchies. These are honeycomb toffee covered in milk chocolate and they are divine!

  1. I love Crunchies and I agree they are such an underrated chocolate bar. This looks really good! I haven’t seen the Crunchie spread where I live, so that makes me sad, but I want to try and make this, so I will have to look for a suitable alternative so I can give this a go.

    1. Thank you! If you can get the crunchie spread you 100% should! I normally find it in the same aisle as the Nutella and other spreads so fingers crossed you will be able to find some! If not then a suitable alternative!
